In December 2014 research for the Ministry of Justice (Trinder et al., 2014) identified a range of problems litigants in person (LIPs) faced in family proceedings, which would be aggravated after the severe restrictions on legal aid implemented from 1 April 2013 under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO).
